Wynantskill - Charles (Chuck) Francis Ponzi, 78, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2022 with his loving family by his side. Charles was the son of the late Julius and Mary (Higley) Sandroni. Charles was the devoted husband to Nancy (Haberl) Ponzi. He grew up in Elmira, NY with his sister, Diane Ponzi-Silvers, and spent most of his life in the Capital Region.
Chuck worked in Retail Food Sales, Managing Regional Operations for Anchors Away. This afforded many stories of selling Meat & Seafood to famous athletes from New York, New Jersey, and Kansas City among his travels. As a life-long NY Yankees fan, he devoted decades of service to Latham Little League, Watervliet Little League, and held multiple District Level positions. He took great pride in sharing his love of the game with countless young athletes who still, to this day, call him "Coach." He loved to cook, and couldn't wait for you to try "the greatest thing you ever had," especially his Stuffed Peppers and Endive Soup.
Charles is survived by his children, Deona (Bob) Muller of Montour Falls, Troy (Carolyn) Ponzi of Cape Coral, FL, Cher Devine of Clifton Park, Jennifer (Josh) Radigan of Wynantskill and "the apple of his eye," Zach (Natasha) Ponzi of Guilderland. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alyssa, Devin, Cierra, Jordan, Joshua and Amelia and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Cali, Adalyn and Gavin.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, on Saturday April 2, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Coach's name to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or your local Little/Softball League. These foundations were near and dear to his heart.
