Charles Andrew Sterling, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2016 at his home, with his loving family by his side.
Charles was the son of the late Charles and Marion Sterling.
He is the devoted husband to Jean (Cassidy) Sterling.
He proudly served with the Army National Guard for 6 years and achieved the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1963.
He worked for Rutland Lumber Co., RTA, Bellevue Builders and Best Tile. He was a cabinet maker and kitchen designer for many years.
Charles was a member of the Capital District Chevy Club, the Guilderland YMCA, past member and teacher of the Guilderland Judo club, past member of the Guilderland Elks and an Ambassador with the Albany County Airport for over 12 years.
Charles enjoyed fishing, painting, camping and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by his brother Robert Sterling and his sister Coralie Sterling.
Charles is survived by his wife, Jean Sterling; his children, Gary (Aundrea) Sterling, Gale (Robert) Farris, Jill (Timothy) Keyrouze and Linda (Daniel) Lachanski. He is the brother of Marjorie Laymond, the cherished grandfather of 13 and beloved great grandfather of 2. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Albany County Hospice for all of their care and support, also the staff at the Albany County Airport and Albany County Sheriffs for a birthday they will never forget.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday August 4, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. A funeral service will be held on Friday August 5, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
