Mr. Charlie W. Harris, Sr., 71, departed this life suddenly on Thursday, October 14, 2021 in Albany, NY.
Charlie was born in Halifax, VA on March 21, 1950 to loving parents Ralph and Anna Belle Harris. Charlie spent his early years in Halifax and later relocated to Albany, NY in 1967 where he met and married the love of his life, Mattie Ware. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage.
Charlie was a hardworking man. He was employed as a Machine Tender at Mohawk Paper Mill for 41 years before retiring in 2013.
Charlie was a man who lived life on his own terms. You could often catch him enjoying his favorite drink-Paul Masson. He did things his way. He had a keen sense of humor and delighted in playing his guitar. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. You could often find him in the neighborhood stores telling jokes while purchasing his scratch-off tickets. He enjoyed spending time on the stairs with his boys telling stories with his cigarette hanging from one side of his mouth. He was fond of fishing, casinos and watching old Westerns. What Charlie enjoyed most was spending time with his NuNu (Ta'Lib Jr.) who he made sure to call every day.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Mattie Ware Harris, daughter; Mattie M. Harris; sister, Mary Alice (Sug)Harris of Vernon Hill, VA, uncle John Leroy Hill, of Trenton, NJ; aunt Mabel Harris of Albany, NY; grandchildren, Ta'Lib Wallace, Salah Harris, Na'Zir Coaxum, Kymel Harris, Blessin Harris all of Albany, NY; one great-grandson, Ta'Lib Wallace, Jr of Albany, NY; sisters-in-law, Esterlene Brown of Albany, NY, Shelane Pringle of Amsterdam, NY; favorite brother-in-law Frank (Louise, also one of his favorite cousins) Ware; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Hazel) Ware of Albany, NY, and Henry Ware of Pontiac, Michigan; special nieces, Annie Hankins of Albany, NY, and Katrina Preston of Burlington, : favorite cousin, Gay Barksdale of South Boston, VA; bonus sons: George Wilson, Tejuan Carter, Sr., TaKiem Keene, and Dushon Tarver, all of Albany, NY; and his special buddy James (Gloria) Ballou of Albany, NY. Charlie is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Anna Belle Harris; son, Charlie "Sweeda" Harris, Jr.; brothers William (Bill), Robert (Fats), John (Cake), Leroy, and Ras (Boochie) Harris.
