Charlotte Ann Miecznikowski

September 9, 1949 — April 9, 2023

Latham – Charlotte Ann Miecznikowski, 73, of Latham, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, April 9, 2023.

A lifelong Capital Region resident, Charlotte was born in Albany on September 9, 1949. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Helen Peter (Yesilonis). Charlotte attended Vincentian Institute in Albany and went on to graduate with her bachelor's and master's degrees from the College of St. Rose ('71) where she studied education and literacy.

For more than four decades, Charlotte was an elementary school teacher for the City School District of Albany. During her 42 years with the district, she taught pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, most recently at Philip J. Schuyler Elementary School and Sheridan Preparatory Academy. She was a strong leader in the Albany Public School Teachers Association, a passionate advocate for her students and profession, and beloved mentor of countless new teachers during her long career.

Charlotte cherished every day with her students and fellow teachers. In her free time, she enjoyed being with her friends and family, whom she loved dearly. Celebrating those closest to her was one of her greatest joys. She never missed an opportunity to recognize a birthday or holiday, whether she was sending a greeting card or ornament to celebrate the occasion, or one of her emoji-filled text messages. Her warm smile, thoughtful spirit, generous nature, and comforting hugs will be greatly missed.

Charlotte is predeceased by her loving husband of 48 years, John, and survived by her treasured daughter, Kathryn (Katie), and Katie's partner, Christopher Small. She was a beloved sister to Helen Webster (the late Robert) of Peru, NY; Kathleen Peter of Latham; and Michele Hacker (Thomas) of Nassau, NY. She was also the proud aunt of Ashley Hacker (Devon Whalen) of Brooklyn, NY; Jennifer Kenyon (Kirby) of Naples, Maine; and Robert Webster Jr. (Erica Higgins-Webster) of Guilderland; as well as several great-nieces and -nephews, whom she adored. She is survived by a host of long-time, cherished friends.

Family and friends are invited to visit with Charlotte's family on Thursday, April 13 from 3 PM until 6 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, NY 12189. A celebration of Charlotte's life will be held on Friday, April 14 at 10:30 AM at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Rd., Latham, NY 12110. Family and friends are invited to attend. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to an organization supporting children and families, such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region, the South End Children's Cafe, or your local library.
