On June 6, 2023 we lost our beloved daughter, Cheryl Schoonmaker. She is survived by us, her parents, Jeff and Doris Schoonmaker; by her two brothers: Michael and Jeremy; and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Cheryl graduated from Colonie High in 1990 and from Colgate University in 1994. She received her master's degree in English from UAlbany.
Because she loved music so much, she enjoyed singing in the choral group at Colgate.
Cheryl taught SAT prep courses in English up and down the east coast for a year, and worked at UAlbany for a short time. She also worked as a writing specialist at HVCC. She especially enjoyed working with clients at Living Resources.
A strong Christian from early in her life, Cheryl went on a short-term mission trip to Venezuela when she was 12, where her love for Jesus spilled over to the street children she ministered to.
Her wonderful personality and good character showed brightly in her effervescent style of relating to everyone she met. She loved to bring joy to others and her encouragement and support of friends in need meant the world to them.
Our personal grief is deep, but we rejoice greatly for her, knowing that she is experiencing unspeakable joy in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Thursday June 15, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. All are invited to attend her funeral service on Friday June 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 63 Mountain View Avenue, Colonie, NY 12205. Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands, NY.
Memorial contributions in Cheryl's memory may be made to Our Savior's School, 63 Mountain View Avenue, Colonie, NY 12205.
