Colonie- Chester Arthur "Chet" Vigars, III, 67 passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016 after a brief illness.
Chet was born in Albany, NY on December 13, 1948 to Chester and Marion Vigars. Chet was a 1966 graduate of Colonie Central High School. After high school, Chet went to work for the Northway Inn, where he worked until he joined the United States Navy in 1969. Chet served his country honorably until his discharge in 1974. Following his military service Chet went back to work for the Northway Inn for the next 17 years. He also worked for Redwood Bowling Alley, where he met many wonderful friends. After Redwood closed, Chet went to work for Price Chopper until 2010. Most recently, he opened Colony Market on Central Avenue and enjoyed making the small business a success. Outside of his professional life, Chet was the former president of the Albany County Fish & Game Club and until his death served on the club's Board of Directors. Chet will be remembered for his tremendous kindness, his love of golf and bowling, and his passion for the NY Mets and NY Jets.
Chet is predeceased by his father, Chester Arthur Vigars, Jr., and his beloved grandmother, Mary "Nannie" Brodbeck.
He is survived by his loving mother, Marion Vigars, his brother, George (Cathy) Vigars, his niece, Katie Vigars, many aunts, uncles, and cousins, all his friends from Redwood Bowling Alley, and a wide circle of close friends.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, on Monday, August 1, 2016 from 4:00pm-7:00pm. A graveside service will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
