Chester H. Rumsey

ALBANY – Chester H. Rumsey, 81, passed away on Saturday March 1, 2014 at the Teresian House in Albany. He will be greatly missed by his family to whom he was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born on November 2, 1932 in Mount Vernon, N.Y. and moved to Hopewell Junction, N.Y. in 1971. Upon retiring he and his wife settled in the Albany area. He was the son of the late Margaret and Chester Rumsey. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Schneider and his son, Richard Rumsey.
Chet served in the US Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant and tank commander during the Korean conflict. He worked for Con Edison in New York for 46 years, retiring in 1995. He loved the outdoors especially fishing and gardening and enjoyed spending the winters in Florida and Arizona. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, New York Jets and Notre Dame football.
Chet was a kind , gentle man and was loved by everyone who knew him. He met the love of his life on the playground of the elementary school that they both attended. Their love story continued until he took his final breath.
Chet is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Theresa M. Rumsey; his son, Ronald (Mary Rumsey of Fairfield, CT and his daughter Theresa (Michael) O'Mara of Altamont. He is the grandfather of Rachel, Matthew, Kathleen, Michael, Christopher and Ryan. He is the great grandfather of Hayden.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Teresian House and the Albany County Nursing Home for their kind and tender care.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 11:00 at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Ave., Guilderland, NY. Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 10am to 11am at the Church, prior to Mass. Interment will be in Saratoga National VA Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018 or the VA Medical Center, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Chester H. Rumsey.
