Christina H. Vaughn

November 4, 1916 — November 7, 2013

ALBANY – Christina H. Vaughn passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Teresian House. Born in Berne, NY, Christina attended a small country school. In her spare time she read to Sophia Klein, a blind woman in her 90's. Sophia gave Christina a love for travel. She graduated from Middleburgh Central School in 1934 and moved to Albany in 1935. Christina met Dixon Ufer, her first husband at Murray's Dancing School. A war bride, she married him in 1942 and he left for his military service. When Dixon returned they moved to California and had a daughter, Barbara "Bobbie". When Dixon passed on Christina married Lyle Vaughn. Her first job was a nanny for a doctor. She went to nursing school and graduated in 1937. After graduating, she did home nursing and also worked in an optometrist and dentist office. Christina worked next for Dr. Jasper, a gastroenterologist and at that time took classes to become an x-ray technician. She was employed in that capacity from 1950 to 1987 when she retired.

Christina served as a companion, prepared meals and provided nursing care to elderly women. She continued to read to the blind. She was a Eucharistic minister in her church and sponsored a seminarian who became a priest. Christina also did volunteer work at Teresian House. For twenty years she went to bible study at Abba House on Western Avenue. She attended daily Mass at church. She loved travel and travel logs and traveled much of the world, including Canada, India, Ireland, Israel, Norway, the Holy Lands and Europe.
Christina is the beloved mother of Barbara "Bobbie" Ufer Leromain Smith. She is the cherished grandmother of Joel Leromain and Kristen Thayer and the loving great-grandmother of Jordan, Hannah and Sydney Thayer. Many thanks to all of the staff at the Teresian House for their heartfelt care.
