Christopher Roland Blais, 67, of West Sand Lake, NY went home to be with the Lord on November 7, 2024, at the Eddy Heritage House. Born May 14, 1957, in Stamford, CT, he was the son of the late Roland E. and Margaret S. Blais.
The family moved to Rensselaer County where Chris pursued a teaching degree, graduating from HVCC and UAlbany. Following graduation, he taught at Maple Hill High School, then moved to the LaSalle School for Boys in Albany, where he remained for 13 years. He then went to Harriet Gibbons High School before accepting a position at Averill Park High School. He retired from APHS in 2020. Chris was a beloved volleyball coach at Averill Park. He also coached club teams for many years. He cared deeply for his students and players, and was known to some of them as “Papa Bear” and they were his “cubs.” He was a volleyball referee and served as USAVolleyball Commissioner in the Capital Region.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Robin (Stutz) Blais, his son Connor (Kc Rae) Blais, grandson Zen Blais, sisters Deb Cavanaugh and Kate Blais, and 9 nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Friday, November 15, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Immanuel Church, 274 Columbia Turnpike, East Greenbush NY, with a memorial service to begin at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private.
