GUILDERLAND – Claire E. "Nana" Broderick, 81, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2010, surrounded by her loving family at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late James and Norine King. Claire was an Albany resident for all of her life. She attended Vincentian Institute schools and is a graduate of Mildred Elley Business School. Claire worked for thirteen years with the New York State Assembly. She was a longtime communicant of St. Margaret Mary Church and then Holy Cross Church in Albany. Claire was an avid golfer and a member of the Albany Country Club. Spending summers on the beach in Cape Cod and traveling to visit family in Kansas and California were two of her favorite past times. She especially enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and spending time with her adored grandchildren. Claire loved being a homemaker and entertaining her family and friends. Claire was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Broderick, Jr. She is the devoted mother of Kevin (Patty) Broderick of Guilderland, Katie Broderick of Carmel, CA, Timothy Broderick of Albany, Edward (Nancy) Broderick, III of Carmel, CA, Norine (Jude) Molloy of Slingerlands, Michael(Gina) Broderick of Carmel, CA, Ellen(Jeff) Bryl of Leawood,KS and Peter (Melissa) Broderick of Delmar. She is the loving sister of James, Thomas and Michael King and her sister and best friend, Marie Haas. Also surviving are 19 cherished grandchildren and a large group of lifelong and loving friends. The Broderick family would like to extend tremendous gratitude to the entire staff at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center for the loving care and friendship that Claire received during her stay.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew's Church in Voorheesville. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, 2 Mercycare Lane, Guilderland, NY 12084 or the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204 in memory of Claire E. Broderick.
