ALBANY, NY – Clayton T. Van Ness, Jr., 72, passed away on August 6, 2008, after a long illness, at James J. Peters Veterans Hospital in the Bronx, NY, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hudson, NY, he served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail handler before retiring in 1995. Clayton was predeceased by his parents, Clayton T. and Inez (Van Alstyne) Van Ness, Sr. and his sister, Juanita Pell. He is survived by his sons, Clayton (Maria) Van Ness and Loren Van Ness of California and Gary (Debbie) Van Ness of Latham; his daughters, Galita Lloyd of California and Jennifer Tubbs of Ohio; his brother, Rodney (Ardelia) Van Ness and his sisters, Arlene (George) Wallace and Ethel Bowman, all of Schenectady. Also surviving are the loves of his life, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the James J. Peters VA in the Bronx, the Samuel S. Stratton VA in Albany, Ellis Hospital and the Mohawk Ambulance and Albany VA Ambulance paramedics, who always took good care of him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Memory's Garden in Colonie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 811 Eighteenth Street NW, Washington, D.C. 2006-3517 in memory of Clayton T. Van Ness, Jr.
