Clayton William Walters

It is with great sadness that the family of Clayton William Walters announce his passing, following a series of health challenges, on January 5, 2019, at the age of 67 years.

Clayton was born to Sarah "Sally" Knight (d. 2010) and David Lee Ball (d. 1996) on June 7, 1951 in Cumberland, Tennessee. His mother married Phillip Gordon Walters (d. 2007) while Clayton was very young, and it was Phillip who would forever be Clayton's father.

Clayton spent the majority of his young life in the area of Poughkeepsie, NY where he graduated from Arlington High School in 1969, and Duchess County Community College in 1979. He later moved to Schenectady in 1980, followed by a transition to Iowa in 2006. It was during this time that he acted as Vice President of Operations at the St. Gregory Retreat Centers. He then returned to the Schenectady area upon his retirement in 2017, where he was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church.

Clayton was able to achieve recovery and used the lessons he learned to help hundreds of others that were battling their own addictions. He was an epic storyteller that used this talent to teach seminars and to remind his family of its past, all while bringing laughter to everyone he interacted with. He had an eclectic mix of hobbies and loves that included family gatherings (particularly Christmas); music; reading; history; the study of religion and spirituality; the New York Yankees; and exploring area restaurants. He was also one of the world's great cinephiles, who successfully imparted his love of movies and television to his family. His was truly a larger than life presence that will never be equaled.

Clayton will be lovingly remembered by his former wife, Susan Brandau, and their children, David Clayton Walters (Kristen) of Arlington, Virginia; Christopher William Walters (Faith) of Schenectady; Matthew Robert Walters (Katie) of Glenville; and Cassandra Rose Plumadore (Jordan) of Scotia. He will also live on in the memories of his siblings Elissa "Lisa" Fishwick, Gisele Emmett (Wayne), Steven Walters, and Phillip Dennis Walters, as well as in the hearts of Jeanie Walters, and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Linda Livingston and his dear friend David Hill. Finally, Clayton leaves behind five grandchildren that were the love of his life: Jordan Michael, Grace Noelle, Adeline Mae, Norah Jane, and Clayton Wyatt.

A celebration of Clayton's life will be held on Friday, January 11, from noon to 3:00pm at the New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, New York 12205.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any organization that helps bring Christmas cheer to children around the world (such as Toys for Tots).
