Clemens J. Smith, age 78, husband of Sharon A. Smith of Niskayuna, passed away peacefully at his home on December 21, 2023. Born in Albany, NY he was the son of the late Clemens Smith, Sr and late Sarah Smith.
Born on January 24, 1945, "Clem" was the husband of his loving wife, Sharon, for 58 years. He honorably served in the United States Navy as a radar technician on the carriers USS Randolph and USS Forrestal. He later worked for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local # 236) as an electrician as well as serving as the local's Union Manager at the end of his career – a career that spanned over 40 years. Clem graduated high school from Phillip Schuyler in Albany as well as the US Navy's radar school.
In his spare time, he was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish and hunt as well as simply enjoying the experience of being in the woods, taking in all that nature provided. He also had a love for sports but in particular, football and baseball. The Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers and Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts lost one of their biggest fans. But his biggest enjoyment in life was spending time with his wife, who was always by his side, being a father to his sons and daughter as well as being "Papa" to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Smith of Niskayuna, NY, his son Timothy (Cheryl) of Ballston Spa, his daughter Christina (Paul) of Charlotte, NC and son Matthew (Kris) of Phoenix, AZ. He also has 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by his sister Carol and brother Barry.
Services will he held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals in Colonie on Wednesday, December 27th. Public calling hours are from 10-12pm, followed by services at 12pm and burial at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
