Colleen M. DeMichele, 69, of Colonie entered into eternal rest at St. Peter's Hospice Inn on Friday, December 15th following a brief but fierce battle against ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time.
Colleen was born to Helen and Morey Draper in Colonie, NY on August 19th, 1954. She met her husband John when they became neighbors in 4th grade and recently celebrated 46 wonderful years of marriage. Together they have two children, Eric (Shari) and Danielle (Dan) along with their five beautiful grandchildren, whom she cherished more than anything - Nolan, Everly and Scarlett DeMichele and Derrick and Dylan Kutny. Colleen is survived by her sisters Barbara (Kevin) Golden, Cindy (George) Lupe and many loving sister in laws, brother in laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Colleen went to work for The Rexford Insurance Agency right out of high school, then Travelers Insurance for many years and just recently retired from the Business Council of New York after over 20 years. She loved her soap opera lunches with her work family there.
Colleen loved spending time with her family and friends. Especially during her meatloaf dinner nights, epic Christmas Eve parties, annual kids cookie baking days, neighborhood block parties and family girls nights out. She also loved volunteering with many local organizations like The Sacred Heart Food Pantry and The Equinox. She spent many weekends traveling to car shows near and far with her "car people" friends who became family.
She lived life to the fullest and was the kindest soul. The world is a brighter place because she was in it.
Colleen would like to send her love and appreciation to Dr. Barlin and everyone at The Women's Cancer Care Associates and St. Peter's Hospice Inn for their loving care these past few months.
Colleen asks that donations be made in her honor to the Sacred Heart Food Pantry.
Calling hours will be Monday, December 18th from 4-7PM at New Comer Funeral Home in Albany. The Funeral Liturgy will be Tuesday, December 19th at 10:30AM at St Pius X Church in Loudonville, NY with a burial ceremony to follow at Memory Gardens.
