Colleen Simmons 1939-2020
Colleen Simmons, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center.
Colleen was the only child of the late Harry and Rose Adams. Colleen was born in Albany and moved to Altamont at a young age. As a mother and homemaker, Colleen loved to cook and bake. In the early 1970's, Colleen wrote a recipe column for the Altamont Enterprise. Colleen was a member of the Altamont Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for many years.
Later in life, Colleen spent her time divided between her home in Altamont, her camp on Sacandaga Lake and her home in Wesley Chapel, Florida. When in New York, she had worked at the Clubhouse at French's Hollow Golf Course, worked at Altamont Fair, and volunteered at Albany International Airport as an Ambassador. Colleen loved to do craft projects, knit and crochet. She often would join the knitting group at Guilderland Senior Program. In Florida, Colleen was an active member in her community. She often volunteered putting on community dinners and holiday celebrations for fellow seniors. Colleen was honored in 2007 for five years of volunteer service with The Senior Corps Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. Colleen was never far from her cat, Mai Ping, who traveled with her and whom she loved dearly.
Colleen is survived by her daughter Kelly (Walter) Best and her daughter Lisa Thomas (Philip) Sachar of Phoenix, AZ, her grandchildren Terry (Sandra) Thomas of Germany; Jennifer (Michael) Halfpap-Thomas of Germany; Adrian Best, Altamont; Tiffany Best, Gallupville and Damien Sachar, Phoenix, Arizona and her great-grandchildren in Germany. Colleen was predeceased by her first husband Walter Thomas, her son, Craig Thomas and her second husband, Leslie Simmons.
There will be no services at this time. Interment will be at Memory Gardens.
