Concetta "Connie" Barlette, 98, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2014. She was the daughter of the late John Piazza and Rocca Castano Piazza, she was born in West Albany and raised her own family there with her late husband of 63 years, Albert (Kelly) Barlette.
Connie's passion in life was the sport of bowling and as a tribute to her bowling achievements and meritorious service; she was inducted into the New York State Women's Bowling Association's Hall of Fame in 1991. She was honored as a Life Member of the Women's International Bowling Congress and a member of the Albany Women's Bowling Assn. for over 60 years and President for 12 years. She was inducted into Albany's Hall of Fame in 1976 and was instrumental in organizing the Albany Junior Bowling Congress and the Capitol City 600 Club, serving as Director.
Connie was proud to say she bowled in tournaments in every state in the U.S. except Alaska and Hawaii and was a committed advocate for the sport, assisting with bowling programs for the handicapped, wheelchair patients at Veterans Hospitals, and blind bowlers.
Over the years Connie's volunteer activities included membership in the West Albany Fire Dept. #2 Ladies Auxiliary, the Colonie Democratic Committee, and various church and senior groups.
She loved gardening, and her summer residence at Helderberg Lake was where you could find her tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and teaching her grandchildren to fish.
In addition to her parents, Connie was predeceased by her daughter Mary Ann DiBacco, sisters Anne Soffey and Grace Criscone.
Connie is survived by her beloved sons Albert (Evelyn) Barlette and Richard (Paulette) Barlette; her adored grandchildren Guy (Audra)DiBacco, Maryanne (Robert) DeNault , Patricia (Craig) Bailey, Orlando (Stephanie) DiBacco, Denise (Richard) Cudden, Christopher Barlette, Michelle DiBacco, Richard (Kristi) Barlette, Rachel Barlette, and 12 cherished great grandchildren.
Connie's family extends heartfelt thanks to the very special staff at Diamond Hill Nursing Home for her care over the last 4 years and to the compassionate care givers of Renssealer County Community Hospice.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY and from there, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am at St. Claire's Church, 1947 Central Ave., Colonie. Interment will follow the Mass in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Calling hours will be, Monday, September 22, from 4-8 at the Funeral Home.
