Corwin H. Hildebrandt

August 23, 1927 — May 13, 2021

ALBANY- In the warmth and sunshine of a beautiful spring day, Corwin "Corey" H. Hildebrandt joined the love of his life, "his Viola" on May 13th, 2021. After 69 years of marriage, it had been five long years of him missing her so deeply every day.

Corey was born August 23, 1927 in Irvington New Jersey to Robert John and Bessie Steele Hildebrandt.

When he was "sweet 17", Corey joined the Navy in October, 1944 during WW2 and served until June, 1946. He continued in the Naval Reserves until 1958.

When he was discharged from the Navy in June of 1946, he returned to Albany, New York. While laying in a hammock in his backyard, he spotted his soon to be bride, Violet, standing on the porch above. He asked her out to a movie and six months later the two were wed. They remained lifelong residents of Albany.

Corey then went to work for Huyck Felt Co. in Rensselaer, NY in 1947. He remained there as the last employee. He then finished out his work career with Beltrone Construction.

After his retirement he found the greatest joy in helping to raise his last grandchild, Mackenzie Blake. She was known to all as Grandpa's Baby right up until his death.

Corey was a carpenter by trade but could fix anything. He enjoyed sewing and baking and devoted his life to his family. He could always be found doing something with his wife, children or grandchildren.

He was the father of Corwin Jr., Frank, Linda (Rider), Mark and Sharon. He had eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Corey's passing brought an end to an era. He was predeceased by his brothers Robert, Walt "Buddy", Emerson and Rudy and his sisters Madeline and Audrey.

The family cannot express our appreciation for the girls that kept watch over him in his final months while he was confined to his home - Rondah, Queyanna, Ahun'Galique, Raina, Christina, Brianna and Keya (AKA Mickey the Mouse) and our Hospice Nurse Marybeth.

Corey was loved by all who knew him.

Calling hours will be held from 4-7pm on Friday, May 28, 2021 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie NY. A funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at New Comer Funeral Home. Interment will take place following the funeral services at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
