VALRICO, FL - Daniel G. Taylor, 77, died Wednesday January 30, 2008 after a brief illness at his daughter's home in Valrico, FL.
Dan was born in Utica on October 2, 1930 and was the son of the late Richard and Mary Taylor. As a child, Dan's family moved to Rensselaer and he graduated from Van Rensselaer High School in 1948. Dan served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. After his military service, he and his wife Paula moved to Colonie where they raised their daughters. Dan's friends and family will always remember his hospitality and keg of beer at the many parties at the pool or in the basement of his home.
Dan retired as a Supervisor from New York Telephone Company in 1987. Shortly after retirement, Dan and Paula moved to Florida. While in Florida, Dan enjoyed driving the bus for Brandon Sports and Aquatic Club. He was a member of the Colonie Elks and the Telephone Pioneers.
Dan adored his surviving wife of 54 years, Paula Martino Taylor; his daughters, Karen (Jim) Costello of Guilderland, Debi (Jeff) Conwell and Pam (Keith) Dawkins of Valrico, FL. He is the beloved grandfather of Jami Costello of Albany, Shannon Costello of Boston, Brendan Costello of Guilderland, Kyle and Taylor (TJ) Conwell and Ryan Dawkins all of Valrico , FL. He is also survived by sister Corinne (Thomas) Quinn and his sister in law Coleen Taylor of Colonie. Dan was predeceased by his brothers Thomas J. (Shirley) Taylor and Richard M. Taylor. Several nieces and nephews also survive as well as the Martino and Amedio families.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 8:15 at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave) then to St. Paul the Apostle Church at 9:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery.
