Loudonville------Daniel A. "Danny" Gilchrist, age 68, passed away peacefully at home on April 9, surrounded by his loving family in his final hours.
Born and raised in North Albany, the son of the late Theresa Wayne and Robert Gilchrist, Danny was an awesome husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was married to the love of his life, Barbara, for 47 years. Together they raised four beautiful daughters and twelve grandchildren: Kristine Gilchrist-Minasidis (John) of Boston, MA (Mia and Dimitri); Michelle Gilchrist of Rotterdam (Bobby and Eric); Stacey Herrick (Brendan) of Rotterdam (Taylor, Keeley, Hannah); Jennifer St. Denis (John) of Troy (Laura, Samantha, Matthew, Danielle, and Lilly).
Dan served in Vietnam with the US Marine Corps 1967-1969. Known for his strong work ethic, Dan held multiple occupations over his long work career, ultimately retiring from the NYS Dept. of Corrections and Community Services as a Computer Programmer.
Dan was a fun-loving, friendly and outgoing person, known to be the life of any social gathering and someone who was always willing to go the extra mile for his family, friends, and neighbors. An active member of his community, he enjoyed volunteering at his church, the VFW, and when his girls were younger, at his children's schools. Dan loved the NY Mets, the Jets, a cold beer, and golfing with his best friend Dave and their league buddies. He devoted his well-earned retirement years to enjoying time with his family and friends, including travel to Maine, Arizona, and Florida where he always fit in a round of golf, no matter what the weather.
In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Dan is survived by three brothers (Ed, Bill, Bob), two sisters (Phyllis, Sue), as well as his brothers and sisters in law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Dan was predeceased by his twin brothers (John and Jim).
