Daniel P. Buchan

d. August 19, 2010

COLONIE, NY – Daniel P. Buchan, 46, formerly of Latrobe, PA, passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, after a long and courageous eighteen year battle with brain cancer. He lived in various areas of the United States before settling in Colonie. Dan was a 1986 graduate of Washington and Jefferson College with a dual major in Chemistry and German. While attending college he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. At the time of his death, Dan was employed for eleven years with Covanta Secure services based in Fairfield, NJ. Dan was a Lieutenant and proud member of the West Albany Volunteer Fire Dept. #1 and a member of the Watervliet Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Dan fought brain cancer for most of his adult life, but was always ready with a great joke and a big smile to warm your heart. He never seemed sick. Dan will always be remembered as a strong man with a remarkable way to make any one feel good when he was around. He could make a room erupt with laughter with his natural sense of humor. He had an amazing ability to always remain positive and keep up the fight. Dan is the beloved husband of ten years to Kimberly (Ruede) Buchan. He is the devoted father of Hannah Paige and Maggie Dawn. Dan is the loving son of Pete and Mary M. (Gebhardt) Buchan of Latrobe, PA. He is the devoted brother of Mary Paige (John) Coyne of Stockholm, NJ and Amy (Ken) Baldonieri of Greensburg, PA. He will be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews, Katie Coyne, Brian and Kelly Bellegarde and Stephanie and Jake Plasse. Dan is the son-in-law of Art and Dawn Ruede and brother-in-law of Lorie and Calvin Bellegarde of Colonie and Cheri (Bill Gecewicz) Plasse of Latham. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles cousins and countless friends. Dan's family would like to thank Dr. Susan Weaver and the staff of NYOH for all of the care and support given to Dan during his illness.
Funeral services will be Monday morning at 9:30 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:30 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
