Darlene A. Hess

ALBANY – Darlene A. "Dollie" Hess, 72, passed away at her home in the early morning hours of November 4, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

"Dollie" as she was lovingly known was born in Oneida on November 6, 1948 one of eleven children to the late Frank H. and Patricia M. (Shields) Hess. She was a graduate of Mohonasen High School Class of 1966 and attended Fordham University.

Dollie started her career with a temp job at the Dept. of Taxation and Finance, in Albany. She then accepted a job with the NYS division of Youth in NYC in 1973. After many years of living in New York City, she accepted a position at the NYS Racing and Wagering Board and moved back to Albany in 1996.
Dollie loved gambling and visited many casinos. She was unusually lucky and had a knack for winning. She enjoyed sports and was a fan of the Rangers, Jets, and the Yankees. She loved to travel, having traveled all over the world.

She was predeceased by her son, Jeremy in 1970 and her sisters, Muriel Miller and Elaine Hess.

Dollie is survived by her longtime companion of 25 years, David Ridgeway of Albany; her siblings, Karen (Joe) Panoski of Santa Rosa, CA, Sue (Jim) Simmonds of Chesapeake, VA, Sandra (Pierce) Tolson of Chester, VA, Lucy Marchionne of Surprise, AZ, William Hess of Long Island, Melissa "Mindy" (Michael) Willey of Ballston Spa, Paula (Rudy) Hess Clark of Virginia Beach, VA and Laura (Walter) Hess of Scotia. She is also survived by 11 nephews and 13 nieces.

Visiting hours will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 11 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
