Darlene Sue Porter, 68, wife to her soulmate Earl E. Porter of Colonie, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 26, 1954, in Cobleskill NY, she was the daughter to the late Rosalynd Ella Mossman and John Steffey.
Darlene worked for New York State Department of OGS from 1999 – 2014. She enjoyed her work as well as the company of her coworkers, a few of whom have remained dear friends to this day. She was a passionate cook and baker. Her culinary creations were enjoyed by the family and friends that she loved entertaining in her home. She started the tradition of sister's nights, which were filled with side-splitting laughter. Her grandchildren were here greatest source of joy and purpose in later life, and she lived to spend time with them. Darlene was a loving cat owner and enthusiast for most of her life. She will be greatly missed by her grand-cat's Buddha, Matilda, and Luscious Leo. Darlene and Earl loved to travel together, especially to Myrtle Beach, Cape Cod and Maine.
She is survived by her children Jeremiah (Missy) Palumbo, Samantha Palumbo, Michael (Traci) Porter; her grandchildren Antigone, Jayden, Bryce, and Chloe Palumbo, Felicity Downey, and Aidan, Vivi Anne, Caleb, Cadence, and Madden Porter; her sibligns Marlene (George) House, Jeanette (Carl) Haliday, David (Bonnie) Steffey, Andrea (Richard) Daley, Nicole (John) Cremo, Stacey (Andy) Krastins, Heather (Dan) Carcia.
In addition to her parents, Darlene is predeceased by her brother Johnny Steffey, Dorothea DeSormeau. Also, Bob, Tigger, and Mr. Hobbs, her cats.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation on Friday, August 19, 2022, from 4:00pm – 7:00pm, with a Memorial Service to begin at 6:00pm, at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie NY 12205.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Ara Kayayan and Dr. Lee Shapiro, whose compassion care helped her to be a fierce opponent of scleroderma. Darlene was a brave warrior right to the very end.
