"The Cowboy"

Albany- David J. Aloisi, son of the late Harry Aloisi and Mary Catherine O'Dea Aloisi, grew up in the city of Albany, New York and attended Vincentian Institute and Cardinal McCloskey schools. He joined the army in 1961, becoming a Combat Demolition Specialist and Atomic Demolition Specialist, and then served in post-war South Korea. In addition, he later served in the Coast Guard Reserves in 1978- 1980. After his stint in the Army, he did various jobs including installing aluminum siding with his Uncle Ted before joining the Albany Police Department in 1971. Early on in his law enforcement career, he wore a cowboy hat while walking the beat in Arbor Hill, thus earning the nickname, "The Cowboy", and was well-liked in the community. In 1980, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and was later awarded a combat cross for actions performed in the line of duty. In 2004, he retired from the APD. He was a lifelong avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He worked hard all of his life and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 27 years, Catherine Mary Davis.

He is survived by his 3 children, Michelle (Greg) Unser, Elizabeth Aloisi, David (Colleen) Aloisi, a granddaughter Julia Unser , three siblings - Harry (Millie) Aloisi, Mary (Steve) Fiato, Michael (JoAnne) Aloisi, an aunt, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A very heartfelt thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home, "B" Wing, for the many smiles that they brought to our Dad's face and the excellent care that they gave him while there. Special mention too goes out to Albany Medical Center ICU and C6 floor for their excellent care as well.
