David W. Bergin

October 1, 1963 — March 22, 2022

David W. Bergin, (aka Red), 58 Years of age passed away suddenly from complications with diabetes on March 22nd at his home in Albany,NY. This was a disease he had struggled with from a young age. Tragically, he suffered from a sugar low which led to a diabetic coma, which he was unable to come back from and passed in his sleep.

He was born in Dover, DE on October 1, 1963 to the late Glyn and Eileen Bergin. David attended St. Margaret Mary's grade school, Bishop Maginn High School, and Albany High School.

David loved music, especially the Grateful Dead. He enjoyed traveling to many different venues across the country in order to take part in the The Grateful Dead's Experience as a life long fan, where he shared so many memories with his friends and family.

He was a lifelong professional painter who owned his own business, David Bergin Painting Co., before going on to work at Albany Medical Center as a painter, where he worked for the last 5 years. David was very proud of his Irish heritage, and carried himself in a prideful manner in whatever he did. He became very close with all of his co-workers there and anyone who he came into contact with.

He also had a passion for motorcycles to the extent of building his own customized motorcycle to his liking, which was featured in V-Twin Magazine. David's presence would light up any room he walked in to, due to the fact that he appreciated and loved life to the fullest. David was one of the most caring and generous souls that always wore his heart on his sleeve no matter what, caring for others even more so than himself. He is a beautiful soul and will be truly missed, but never forgotten.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Marybeth Bergin (Yankowski), his true soulmate, and Sister Lila Mae Woodgate.

David is survived by his Stepson Justin Shea, Twin Sister Donna Cassaro (Thomas Mottolese), Brother Daniel Bergin (Sara Duncan), as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Memorial Services will be held at a graveside celebration at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, 1389 Central Avenue, Colonie, NY at 11am Saturday, April 9th, were friends and family are welcome to join and celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers/ donations are encouraged to the American Diabetes Association on 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900 Arlington, VA 22202.
