David L. Harris passed away suddenly Sunday March 30 2025 with his Wife Catherine E Harris And Stepson Tyris W Smith by his side, and later his Son Daven Harris.
He was born in Albany NY, the son of Rev. and Mrs. William James Harris and the late brother of William Styles and William James Jr, Mrs. Ruth Ophelia Harris-Smith and Mrs. Naomi Harris-Turner and his adopted sister Ms. Betty Hunt
David grew up in Albany but later moved to Schenectady, where he resided most of his life. He was an Albany High graduate before going on to add an associate’s degree to his accomplishments.
David loved to travel. He especially loved going on cruises every year. We couldn't wait to plan the next cruise. One of his favorite spots to travel was Myrtle Beach, it was one of his and Cathy’s regular trips. He even took a boy's trip with a son Daven Harris, down South to Charlotte to visit family and loved ones. He often talked about the trip.
One thing he was most proud of was his job and his friends at New York State Police. He often reminisced about everybody and everything and his friendships made there. That was one of his proudest achievements having that job. In addition, he worked at Brinks Security for many years as well.
He loved spending time with family, and with his boy's as much as he could and his grandchildren when he got a chance to see them, they weren't local, so it was hard to see them. But when he did, he just lit up, he truly adored and loved them.
David was very passionate and devoted to was his family church Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. He was so proud to talk about the church and all the family members that were involved in and devoted to the father's church, and that it was handed down to the children. It was a blessing, and they all loved the church and in fact became ministers and Deacons for their dedication to it.
He enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes and then of course the old recipes from his mama. But one of his biggest passions was riding his motorcycle, he rode for over forty years of his life. He taught his wife Catherine how to ride and they rode together often, taking trips including going to Americade. It started as his passion and then it became their passion.
David is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Catherine E. Harris and his 2 sons David Harris Jr. and Daven Harris and his stepson Tyris Smith. His 3 sisters Joyce Seabrooks (Tyrone Seabrooks) Minister Brenda Williams-Harris and Isabell Harris and 1 brother Deacon Joseph Harris (Pastor Janet Harris) as well as 8 grandchildren ,1 step grandson and a host of nieces and great nieces and nephews and great nephews.
