David H. Lasinski, 87, of Slingerlands, NY passed away on May 28, 2023 at the Eddy Village Green, Beverwyck. He was the son of Henry and Stella Lasinski (Lasocinski) of Amsterdam, NY. He was educated in the Amsterdam public schools and then attended the University of Kentucky.
Dave started work for the NYS Department of Public Works as an engineering technician in 1959. In 1960 he was invited to join the US Army 25th Infantry 33 Trans Battalion stationed at Scofield Barracks in Hawaii until his honorable discharge in 1962. He then began his long service to the NYS Department of Transportation in Region One, retiring as the Regional Permit Engineer in 1991. Dave especially enjoyed his survey work on the Northway and was proud of fulfilling the transportation requirements essential for the 1980 Olympics.
Dave loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, skiing, gardening, and long walks with his wife and golden retrievers. He enjoyed transporting, fostering, and training rescued golden retrievers. He enjoyed his volunteer therapy dog work at local schools and libraries, Albany County Veterans Hospital, and Albany County Airport. He took up woodworking in retirement and was an active member of the Northeastern Woodworkers Association serving as VP, President, and Set Up Chair for the annual Woodworkers Showcase in Saratoga Springs, NY. He eventually traded in his "flat board" work of jewelry and potpourri boxes, end tables, bookcases, and butterfly houses for "turning". He made beautiful wooden bowls, pens, bottle stops, peppermills, and sewing tools for family members.
Dave enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends. His homemade holiday cookies were a special gift he enjoyed sharing. He will be remembered for his love of family, quick wit, sense of humor, booming voice, love of the Giants, and writing his own obituary.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, his infant daughter Karen Ann, and his beloved golden retriever Molly. He is survived by his wife, Terryann (T.A.); his daughter from his first marriage, Kathleen Ann (James) Ault; his grandchildren, Heather, Karen, Valerie (Joe) Landor, Laura, Daniel, Rachel, Jonathan, and Justin; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
