LOUDONVILLE – David M. Neville, 74, entered into eternal life on July 12, 2012 in the comfort of his home with the support of his family and friends
Son of George A. and Marie K. (Moss) Neville, Dave is survived by his wife, Concetta (Campolungo); son , John (wife Hilary), Boston, MA; daughter, Deanna (fiancé, Mike Cleary) Albany, NY; brothers, G. Scott (Marty) and Peter S. (Ellen), Ballston Lake, NY as well as several nieces and nephews.
First and foremost, Dave was a family man… devoted to his wife of over 48 years, fervently dedicated to her and their two children.
He was a loyal friend and neighbor…hosting parties and family picnics, organizing golf tournaments and reunions, sharing his extensive collection of R&R music from the 50s.
He was a life-long resident of the Albany area. Raised in the upper New Scotland Avenue area and Loudonville, he was a graduate of Milne High School (1955), the Junior College of Albany (Sage) (1961), and State University of NY at Albany (1963); he also attended RPI completing graduate course work in Management. His work career was Albany based as well. Dave was Manager of Employment and Labor Relations with Winthrop Laboratories from 1968 to 1973 followed by 30 years of service with Farm Family Insurance Companies from which he retired in 1997 as Senior Vice President of Human Resources. He was also active in the Capital Region Human Resource Association serving on its Board as well as its President.
He was an involved community servant. He coached Colonie Girl's Softball, Colonie Babe Ruth, and Little League teams. He was on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Northeastern NY serving as Vice Chairman of Special Events. He was on several local high school business advisory committees and served as both a mentor and program instructor.
His most active volunteer leadership role was with the Albany Chapter of the American Red Cross. During his association with the Red Cross he served on its Hypertension Task Force, was a member of its Board of Directors, Vice Chairman of the Personnel Committee, Vice Chairman of the Administrative Council, and member of the Executive Committee. In 1987 he was elected Chapter Chairman. In addition to providing administrative services, he was an 8-gallon blood donor. In 1990, Dave was the recipient of Farm Family's Outstanding Community Service Award.
He was a history buff in every sense, but had special interest in both the Civil War and WWII eras. His passion, however, was his family's genealogy which traced back to the 400s.
He was a patriot who loved his country and was proud of his military service in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves, the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Army Reserves from 1955-1961.
Dave was many things to many people; he will be missed by all.
The family would like to thank all who reached out to Dave during his illness—family and friends, oncologist, Dr. M. Kolodziaj and the staff at NYOH, his primary care physician, Dr. Angel Millora, and the angels from Community Hospice of Albany.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville, NY. Following the Mass his ashes will be entombed in the American Saints Mausoleum, St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, NY.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, July 17, from 4-7 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.
