David J. Mongeon

David John Mongeon, 73, of Colonie, NY, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 16, 2025. 

Born on August 24, 1951 in Rochester, NY to the late John E. and Lucille Mongeon. David was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a devoted dog dad to his babies Sabrina, Salem, Sassy, and Sammy.

On August 18, 1984, he married the love of his life and best friend, Barbara Mead, in Colonie, NY. Together, they built a life in Barbara's childhood home, raising beautiful dogs and training them to compete in agility events.

David had a deep passion for the simple joys in life. He loved to visit the Saratoga Harness Track to catch up with friends and family while watching the races. He was an accomplished bowler when he was younger, but as he grew older he savored spending time at home on the couch with his dog, Sammy, watching old Westerns. David had a funny sense of humor, and never missed a chance to rib his younger brothers when together. He was protective of the people and dogs he loved, and valued connecting with family whether near or far. He was never afraid to pick up the phone and call and ask you how you were doing.

In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his sisters, Ann “Buttons” Paradis and Christine Cachaza; his mother and father in law, George and Doris Mead; and his brother in law, George E. Mead. 

He leaves behind his loving wife, Barbara Mead Mongeon; brothers, John Mongeon (Ann), Scott Mongeon; brother in law, David Mead (Debbie); sister in law, Ila Oby Mead; and many nieces and nephews who adored him: Eric Cachaza, Shane Mongeon, Marie Mongeon, Nicole Mongeon, Chad Mead, Justin Mead, Matthew Mead, and their families. His presence will be profoundly missed.

The family would like to thank the staff at Fulton Center Rehabilitation and Nursing for making David's final days as comfortable as possible. 

Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 6:00 p.m.
