David Paul Erglis, 42, passed away on August 15 at the Albany Medical Center in the presence of his family after a long and heroic battle with leukemia. He was born on June 3, 1967 in Williamsburg, VA, but soon after moved to the capital district area where he grew up attending Shenendehowa Schools, graduating in 1985. Later he earned a degree in hotel and restaurant management from the Schenectady County Community College. He worked in the food and restaurant industry all his life, as manager for several restaurants, his last employer being the 99 Restaurant in Wilton as service trainer. He was an avid collector of sports memorabilia and a living encyclopedia of sports statistics and information. He was also a lifelong dedicated follower of the Grateful Dead.
He is survived by his parents, Talavs and Beatrise Erglis, of Clifton Park, his brother Andrew Erglis of Bluffton, SC, and sister Amanda Erglis of Astoria, aunts Brinda (Sidney) Bush of Palm Coast, FL, Dauga Heinmiller of Liverpool, Tamara (Richard) Pavlica of Pointe Claire, Canada, uncle Harold (Eleanor) Reinholds of East Lansing, MI and cousins Christopher Heinmiller, Kim Rossi, Steven Bush, Alexandra Wise, Omar and Rodney Pavlica.
Funeral service will be at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday, followed by the memorial service at 7:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions honoring David may be made to the American Latvian Lutheran Church of Schenectady, c/o T. Erglis, Treasurer, 16 Gauthier Dr., Clifton Park, NY 12065.
