WATERVLIET – David A. Valcek, 74, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 8, 2021 at Glens Falls Hospital, after a three year battle with cancer.
David was born on May 30, 1946 in Troy and was the son of the late Andrew J. and Margaret C. (DeShaw) Valcek. He graduated from Watervliet High School – Class of 1964 and Roberts Wesleyan Methodist College with degrees in both English and history. He was a supervisor for 30 years for Albany County Social Services – Office of Welfare, retiring in 2000. He devoted his life to community service and his church. He was one of the founders of both the Open Table Soup Kitchen and Peer Support Mental Health Center located in Watervliet. He was a current member of Christ United Methodist Church in Troy.
David is survived by his devoted sister, Andrea Mallin of Troy; his loving niece, Daria Mallin (Gregory Myers) of Albany; his lifelong friend, Cynthia Trainor of Florida; and close friend, Derrick D'Amico of Schenectady.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet.
