On Sunday, August 21, 2022, David Laurie Wilson, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at age eighty-three.
Dave was known for his great warmth and intelligent sense of humor, and he enjoyed life to the fullest, especially if it had family, friends, and ice cream in it. He was known for saying "It's Tuesday, let's celebrate!" Dave had a unique way of connecting with everyone he met, always believing that there was something special about them. He was given most appropriate nicknames at an early age such as "Weird Wilson" and "Sunshine".
Dave was born on October 12, 1938, in Buffalo, NY. He attended the Milne School in Albany where he was class president and Valedictorian, and earned his Eagle Scout badge. His early adventures led him to achieve his bachelor's degree from Amherst College, join the Armed Forces serving in Korea as a First Lieutenant (Artillery), learn several languages, and earn a masters degree from the INSEAD business school in Fountainbleau, France and the University of Rochester.
After retiring from a long and successful career as a businessman at Kodak, he became a self-appointed Artistic Support Specialist (so chosen for its acronym) to his wife, Nan, participating in nature art shows all over the country. He maintained close relationships with his Canadian relatives, and was always quick to reference his parents' Canadian roots. He loved all things French, having attended university in Fountainbleau, later transferring to Kodak Pathe and taking the family to live in Paris.
In his later years, Dave enjoyed writing about family history and spreading joy by sharing photos with his family. He spent as much time as he could in the Albany Pine Bush and at the family camp in Speculator NY, a special place for generations of the Wilson family. His greatest role (besides being the most loving husband and father) was as "Poppi" a most playful grandfather, with endless patience and love for his grandchildren.
Dave is preceded in death by his father, Jarvis "Bub" and his mother, Muriel. He is survived by his wife Nan, his sister Ann, his daughter Laura and her husband Bill, daughter Valerie and husband Brian and grandchildren Liam, Madeleine, Nora, Evan and Claire, as well as beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
