David R. Young, Sr., 71, of Johnsonville, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023, at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his loving family after a long illness.
David was born on April 14, 1952, in Colchester, Vermont, to the late Nelson Rolland Young and Wanda Small (Cardinal). He grew up in Grafton with his late stepfather Dick Small and his late stepmother Nancy Young. He is survived by his siblings, Nelson Paul (Dinah) Young, Phyllis (the late Joe) Czwakiel, Mimi (Wayne) Denue, and Elaine (Paul) Young; his half brothers, Gerald (Tina) Young, and BobbyJoe (Johanna) Young; and four half-sisters, Yvonne (Gordon) Collins, Nannette (the late Bruce) Lane, Linnie Sue and Amy.
David married his first wife, Patricia A. Young, in 1972, and they had two sons, David R. (Jaime) Young Jr and Keith P. (Rhonda) Young. Patricia passed away in 1999. David later married his second wife, Mary L. Young (Beaudry), in 2000, and became a stepfather to Scott DeGiorgio and the late Brian DeGiorgio.
David worked as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator for S.M. Gallivan and Lucarelli Brothers for over 30 years. He loved driving and operating machinery. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his family, friends, and grandchildren. He was a kind, generous, and fun-loving man who always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
In addition, David is survived by his grandchildren Alicia, Chayton, Justin, Kaiden, Seth, Anna-Faith (Wyatt), Brian, and Elisabeth. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 4th, 2023, from 10am to 12pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189 with a service to follow at 12pm. Burial will follow the service at Eagle Mills Cemetery, 550 Garfield Rd, Brunswick, New York 12180
The family would like to thank the Samaritan Hospital ER and ICU staff, and Dr Pahwa for their compassionate care and support during David's final days.
David will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
