Albany - Dean Carver Gray, husband of the love of his life, Patricia (Hamilton) Gray, passed away quietly at home on March 23, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer. Dean was born in Albany, NY on September 1,1926 to the late Bertha and Harry Gray. He was 90 years old. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved son Timothy and daughter Tracey.
A WW11 SeaBee at the age of 17, Dean served in Okinawa from August 1944 to May 1946.
He then worked for GE in Schenectady for 37 years in the Generator Division.
Dean was a strong advocate of adult stem cell research and spent great effort attempting to find funding for this cause. Christian faith and family were the most important things in his life.
Dean's greatest accomplishment was his family, and he was a role model to all of them. He was a constant motivator to his family for acquiring good jobs and doing positive things in their lives.
Dean was a very positive, optimistic person, who never complained or felt sorry for himself.
Even during his final difficult days he was more concerned about others.
Dean is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Patricia (Hamilton) Gray. He was the beloved father of 3 daughters; Kathy (Pete) Zayicek, Nancy (Mike) Furnari, and Terry (Bob) Krykowski and
4 sons; Dennis (Lois), James (Terri), Dean (Genny) and Patrick (Jackie) Gray. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Avenue, Albany, NY on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 9am -11am. All are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial, with full Naval military honors, will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 983 Watervliet Shaker Road, Albany.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Albany Hospice, who provided Dean with compassionate care the past few months.
