Answering the call of the Master on June 26 2014, Debra Fredericks (Cato) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at St. Peter's Community Hospice. Debra was born August 30, 1959 in Manhattan, NY to the late Rudolph and Flecia Cato.
Debra received her early education in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Albany High School, class of 1977. Debra received her Associates Degree in Food Service Administration from Fulton Montgomery Community College. Debra held various job positions. She was employed at Friendly's Ice Cream Restaurant as a supervisor, at the Albany County Probation Department as a clerk-typist, CDTA as a bus driver, and numerous health care positions, the latter being a CNA for Maxim Health Care.
Debra accepted Christ and became a member of Sojourner Truth A.M.E. Zion Church in 1976 where she participated in many church activities. In 1996, she married James Fredericks in holy matrimony. From this union, her blended family was completed with their four children; DeJuan, Shalanda, Jameela and Janiene.
Debra Fredericks was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. A social butterfly who was often the life of the party! She enjoyed playing cards, board games and doing puzzles with her family. Debra was a helper by nature and delighted in spending time with family and friends. A fan of photography, she loved being behind the camera as well as in front of it. Debra had a photogenic face.
Debra was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Flecia Cato, brother George Parker (Antoinette Goins) and adopted mother Ada Jackson. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: husband, James Fredericks, sister Diane Cato both of Albany, NY. brother Rudolph Cato (Leslie) of Parlin, New Jersey; four children, DeJuan Cato, Shalanda Fredericks, Jameela Fredericks and Janiene Fredericks; five grandchildren; Khaliana, Shati & Shaniya Fredericks and CayArie & Z`navia Cato. A very special sister-like friend, Leslie Post and a long time friend Pamela Prince and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Debra will be held Wednesday July 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at Sojourner Truth A.M.E. Zion Church, 351 Livingston Ave. Viewing will precede the service from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery.
