SCHENECTADY – Dennis J. Ryan, 92, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the Stratton VA Medical Center of natural causes. Born in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late Bridget and Cornelius Ryan.
Dennis served his country in the United States Army, 34th Infantry Division during World War II. In 1943, he became an honorable recipient of the Purple Heart. He was employed with the Schenectady Army Depot. Dennis was an avid fan of the NY Giants and Yankees.
Along with his parents, Dennis was predeceased by his wife of 13 years, Dolores (Shields) Ryan and infant son Dennis John in 1958, and twelve siblings.
He is survived by his daughter Jeanne M. Ryan of Schenectady; grandson Joseph D. LaMalfa and his wife Susan (Raeder) LaMalfa; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:00 am at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St., Schenectady. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Stratton VA Medical Center, VA Hospice, 113 Holland Avenue, Albany, NY 12208, in Dennis' name.
