HOWES CAVE – Dennis D. Richard, 80, passed away on September 29, 2022 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Albany on June 11, 1942 a son of the late Albert J. and Mary (Smith) Richard. He attended Christian Brothers Academy and graduated from Guilderland High School. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Air Force in Loring, Maine.
Dennis was a longtime Firefighter with the Albany Fire Department, retiring as a Lieutenant after 36 years on Ladder 4 Engine 9 on October 11, 2000. Following his retirement, he worked for Ryder Rentals for many years.
He was interested in town politics and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved his horses, Slick, Gracie and Mary and enjoyed crossword puzzles and Jeopardy!
Dennis is survived by the mother of his children, Gaetane Richard; his longtime companion, Sue Herchenroder; his son, Gerard (Katherine) Richard; his three daughters, Yvonne (Greg) Davis, Renee (Scott) VanDerzee and Michelle Smith (Alberto David, Jr.); his five grandchildren, Derek, Nicholas (Megan Lane), Ryan, Matthew and Eric and two great grandchildren, Adaline and Killian; his siblings, Alan Richard, Sharon (Mark) LaPier, Joanne (Ronnie) Meagher, Francis (Patty) McCarthy and Jacqueline (Mike) Catalfamo and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society or to the Pamela Rulison Tauson's Lansing Horse Rescue, 717 Brower Road, Palatine Bridge NY 13428.
