Dennis Warren Wielt, 72, passed away on July 14 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the love of his wife and daughter in the comfort of his home.
Dennis was born in Niskayuna to the late Warren and Rena Wielt. He attended Niskayuna High School, where he made many lifelong friends. After graduation, he was drafted into the Army in 1969 and served during the Vietnam War. He was trained as an aircraft mechanic and was awarded The National Defense Service Medal. After the war, Dennis worked as a mechanic for several years. From a young age, Dennis had a love for anything with an engine, classic cars being his specialty. He owned and restored many cars over the years, but his pride and joy was a 1929 Model A Ford hot rod with a V12 engine. He and his wife enjoyed many rides in the Model A and enjoyed bringing it to car shows.
Later in life, Dennis became the manager of his family-owned mobile home park in Glenville, where he worked until retirement. In addition to working on classic cars and spending time with his family, Dennis loved to read about his various interests. He was a history buff with a particular love of the Civil War era and WWII. He loved discussing politics and telling stories. His family and friends will remember him as a great storyteller and true patriot.
Dennis is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Marcie; his adoring daughter, Bonnie; his most precious sister, Barbara Pierce; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
