Dermot Clarke "Dada", 80, passed away May 21, 2009 at his home in Colonie after a brief illness.
He was born in Jamaica, West Indies and was the son of the late Uriah and Frances Clarke. He worked for Trinity Institution for 5 years and with the Albany Carpenters Union for 28 years. Dermot was a member of Colonie Christian Life Center whose hobbies were carpentry, gardening and word search. He enjoyed having family and friends around and serving during local elections, but he was best known for being a loving and kind husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Violet Clarke, his children: Ivon Clarke of Albany, Meril (Jean) Clarke-Jacques of Troy, Melvin (Panzea) Clarke of Albany, Murray (Rose) Clarke of Newburgh, Lincoln Clarke of Albany and Courtney (Shownna) Clarke of Tarrytown, 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Carl Clarke.
The funeral service will be held 11:00am Saturday at Colonie Christian Life Center, 31 Vly Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will precede the service from 9:30 to 11:00 am at the church.
