DeWitt Talmadge Murray, age 80, of Colonie, NY, departed this life Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at his home. Born May 6, 1926 in Chester, South Carolina he was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. DeWitt Talmadge Murray, Sr. He enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He then attended Howard University, in Washington, DC.
DeWitt was employed by Norton Company in Watervliet, NY and retired after 35 years of service in the department of Research & Development. He served diligently as a board member on the Carver Community Center of Schenectady, NY. He was a proud member of the Garden Club. DeWitt was currently serving on the Town of Colonie Board of Conversation Advisory Council as the Chair for more than 20 years.
Mr. Murray's wife, Juanita Murray, of 29 years, and one daughter predeceased him. He leaves to mourn one sister, Jeanne Kinloch of Teaneck, NJ; seven daughters, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4:00 PM at the Macedonia Baptist Church, 172 N. Allen St., Albany, NY. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at the church. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.newcomerfamily.com.
