LOUDONVILLE – Dolores Ropelewski, 62, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2011 at Albany Memorial Hospital after a long battle with kidney disease and diabetes. She was surrounded by her loving family.
She was the daughter of the late Joe Molano and Maria Quinones and was raised in Eagle Lake, TX. Dolores was the wife of John J. Ropelewski and the late Donald Patrick Donahue. She is survived by her sons, George Patrick Donahue of Clifton Park and Robert Samuel Donahue (Jennifer); her grandson, Benjamin Thomas Donahue and granddaughter, Julia Margaret Donahue both of Reston, VA. Dolores was the oldest of twelve children and is survived by Joe Molano, Jr. of Arizona, Minerva Molano (deceased), Carlos Rafael Molano of Colonie, Ernest Gene Molano, Carl Edwards Molano and Cynthia Hargerty all of Oakland, Calif., Aurora Esther Molano, Angel David Molano, Miguel Alberto Molano, Angela Socorro Molano, Manuel Molano all of Bayamon, Puerto Rico. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who reside in Texas, New York and other parts of the United States and Mexico.
Dolores, being the daughter of a military man, attended 12 different schools in Killeen and Fort Hood, TX, graduating in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico. She was an avid reader, loved to cook and listen to big band music, watch old movies, loved babies and had a green thumb with a passion for cactus. She moved to Schenectady in 1966 and worked briefly at Two Guys and Carl Company in the cosmetics department and went to work at Off Track Betting as a Senior Vault Attendant. She moved to Loudonville in 1988 and had also worked for Progressive Insurance as a Quality Control Auditor as well as Kimberly's as a nail technician.
Dolores adored her sons and grandchildren and felt blessed by her wonderful friends and her husband John who made her laugh and she was always "Living La Vida Loca".
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Northeast Kidney Foundation, 99 Troy Road, Suite 200, East Greenbush, NY 12061 or to The American Diabetes Association, 7 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205.
