AMSTERDAM- Dolores J. Stankes, age 85, passed away on May 28, 2021. She was born in Schenectady, NY, the daughter of the late Adam and Anna Strozyk. Dolores was predeceased by her husband Stanley R. Stankes and her sister Ruth Sammo.
Dolores was a graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing and was a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam. She took time off to raise her family and later returned to nursing at St. Mary's.
She was united in marriage to Stanley for 58 years.
Dolores enjoyed reading, gardening, and traveling, where family, food, and shopping were always on the agenda. She was also known for her delicious apple pies. Dolores enjoyed the companionship of her rescue dogs Molly, Mimi, and Abby.
She is survived by her four children: Michele Stankes Ross, Christine (Leo) Tuttle, David (Sarah) Stankes, and Susan (Dermot) Leech; eight grandchildren: Derrick (Leandra Neal) Ross and Richard (Anna Mahoney) Ross, Amanda (Jason) May and Erica (Joon Hur) Tuttle, Anna, Benjamin, and Jack Stankes, and Keira Leech; one great grandchild, Colton May; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in late July at St. Stanislaus Church, Amsterdam.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the SPCA or the Amsterdam Public Library.
