Domenica Mortati, longtime resident of 70 Parkway North in Yonkers, NY passed away October 4, 2020 at the age of 92. She was born December 18, 1927 to immigrant parents Giuseppe and Maria (LaLumia) Mortati. She was a first-generation Italian-American and among the first persons in her family to go to college. A graduate of Hunter College, she worked as a magazine editor for many years, most notably with McGraw-Hill in New York City. A consummate New Yorker and cosmopolitan lady, she was a wonderful human being with a warm and loving heart that befriended everyone she met. She had this great habit of ending every exchange on a positive note ("Let's hope for the best."). She was preceded in death by her sister, Teresa, and twin brother, Saverio. She is survived by her nephew Joseph, niece Maria and her husband Mark, nephew Tom and his wife Erica, and great nieces and nephews Matt, Cara, Dillon, and Riley. She will be missed. The family is forever grateful to the amazing, compassionate staff at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, NY for caring for our aunt at the end of her life. Heartfelt thanks in particular to: Sierra, Rebecca, Kemroy, Lisa, Kevin, Tina, Kimberly, Cynthia, Joan and many others, as well as her dear friends and table mates, Mike and Dave, who always looked out for her.
