Dominic S. Trischetta

d. September 30, 2005

ALBANY – Dominic S. Trischetta, 88, of Berkshire Blvd., Albany, NY, entered into eternal life on September 30, 2005, at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center, Albany, after a brief illness. He was born on September 16, 1917, in Staten Island, NY, the son of the late Vincenzo and Palmira Bersani Trischetta. His beloved wife of 59 years, Josephine Mirella Trischetta, predeceased him in November 2000. Dominic was the loving father of Ronald (Linda) Trischetta of Colonie, and Janet (Paul) DelVecchio of Albany, cherished grandfather of Gina (Todd) Hanley, of Guilderland, Paul and Lisa DelVecchio, both of Albany and Brian Trischetta, of Colonie and doting poppy to his three great grandchildren, Caitlin, Kaysie and Daniel Hanley of Guilderland. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and got great pleasure watching them excel at sports -- he was their biggest fan on the sidelines.
He enlisted during WWII in the U.S. Navy – Seabees – as a Chief Carpenter's Mate, Construction Battalion, in charge of building airstrips in the Philippines, New Guinea and Australia. In 1946, after serving his country, he started his own construction business, Trischetta Building Corporation, as a custom home builder and remodeler. He built several homes in the Albany and Delmar area, and had a successful career that spanned over 30 years. He was a former member of the Albany Home Builders Association and Albany Elks Club. Early on in his career he was invited to star in a local home improvement TV show on WRGB where he would present tips for Do-It-Your-Selfers. He was a master craftsman and could take an ordinary piece of wood and turn it into a beautiful piece of furniture.
At the prodding of his wife Josephine, they both started golfing in 1962 and it became a passionate sport for the both of them. They loved the game so much that they decided to join Pinehaven Country Club in the early 1960's and remained members for over 30 years. Both of them were quite proficient playing the game and won many tournaments respectively. It was also a time they formed many friendships that lasted throughout their lives. They served on several social and club committees and Dominic served a term on the Board of Directors. He was so well respected that he was asked to build a new clubhouse at Pinehaven which he did in the mid 1960's. Around this time also, he and Josephine started spending the winter months in Florida where they had a home in Ft. Lauderdale and then in Tamarac. They would enjoy these times socializing and playing golf together until 1993. Dominic also loved to hunt and trout fish with his son Ron, and they spent many weekends doing so. In his later years Dominic enjoyed gardening and tinkering in his workshop.
Dominic was predeceased by his sister Mildred Agolia, brother Eugene Trischetta and brother-in-laws Frank Mirella, Joseph Mirella, Joseph Agolia, George Bushee and sister-in-laws Ann Bushee and Gladys Mirella. He is survived by his sister-in-laws Marie Mirella of Albany and Anne Trischetta of Staten Island, and his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Shirley Mirella of Albany. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary's Church, Western Avenue at Homestead Street, Albany with interment at Memory Gardens, Colonie. Calling hours at Newcomer Cannon Funeral Home, New Karner Road, Colonie, will be on Monday from 4-8 p.m. Those who wish may make a contribution in Dominic's memory to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
