Dominick Coppa

d. November 1, 2023

Albany - Dominick Coppa, 64, a beloved friend to many, passed away on November 1 after a 3 year battle with cancer. He died peacefully and courageously with his wife, Andrea in his arms and family and friends at his side. In addition to his wife, Andrea DeSantis, Dominick is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Coppa, sister Michelina Coppa, cherished cousins Jenny Chiapparino and Laura Riccio Chaffiotte, and extended family members; his beloved parents-in-law, Mario and Anita DeSantis, sisters-in-law Maria, Joanna, and Debbie DeSantis, and brothers-in-law, Mario and Tom DeSantis also survive. He was predeceased by his father Thomas Coppa, Ann Farnan (aunt) and Joseph Christiana (cousin).

Dominick graduated from Aviation High School in Queens, NY. He was employed as a plumber at the VA hospital in Albany, NY for 28 years; a job that allowed him to use his many technical skills and talents. He extended his extraordinary hand skills by becoming a licensed massage therapist in 2003, a profession that allowed him the pleasure of using his heart to provide therapeutic touch healing. Dominick had many interests and talents; including but not limited to designing and creating stained glass and custom woodworking. During the past several years, his creativity was further fueled by his love of HGTV & DIY TV shows. In addition to being an avid hiker, skier, cyclist, drummer, and handball player, Dominick had a keen interest in music and dancing. He was a ballroom and swing dancer for over 20 years and competed at regional and national west coast swing events.

Dominick will be missed by the many people that he knew over the years from his diverse passions in life. He did not allow the limitations of his cancer to interfere with his enjoyment of loved ones, nor diminish his sense of humor. He endured through his pain to engage in the hobbies he so dearly loved, always seeing the positive.

Andrea and her family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all friends and family who visited or sent cards, his extraordinary medical doctors, staff, and nurses at Albany Medical Hospital Oncology including inpatient Blood Disorders and Cancer unit, the Albany Medical Center MICU staff, and for the loving staff at Rosewood Gardens, all of whom went beyond their professional responsibilities to help Dominick and his family endure the stress of his disease. Dominick was so moved by the outpouring of support from both friends and professionals who deeply cared for him, especially during the past year.
