Donald A. Hart

August 19, 1923 — December 15, 2014

Donald A. Hart, formerly of Haigh Avenue, Schenectady, most recently residing at Ingersoll Place Assisted Living, died December 15, 2014 after a long illness. Don was born in Herkimer, NY on August 19, 1923 to Beecher and Elsie Hart. He graduated from Herkimer High School and served in the Army Anti-Aircraft Artillery Division from December 1942 until December 1945 and was stationed in the Philippines, Fiji Islands, and New Guinea, in the South Pacific.

Don married Patricia Walker on November 22, 1945. He worked at Brebeck's Manufacturing Co. in Herkimer making model trains, and later at Remington Arms in Ilion, NY. They lived in Herkimer until 1963, when he moved with his wife and four children to Schenectady's Stockade area to work as a caretaker for Sr. George's Episcopal Church. After seven years at St. George's, Don had a few other jobs which included the YMCA, Dudley Observatory, and many years with BOCES, from which he eventually retired.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Pat) W. Hart and four children, Suzanne Vail of Roanoke VA, Scott Hart of Asheville NC, Erin Hart of Schenectady, and David Hart of Latham. He also leaves behind three grandchildren; Matt Vail of Roanoke, Laura Hart, currently in Japan, and Rachel Hart of Michigan.

Don was a man of service. He made himself available to anyone who needed help. He was a Scout Master, Furniture maker, painter, cleaner and all around handy man. He really enjoyed doing odd jobs for other people.
