Loudonville – Donald Bell, 78, passed away peacefully at home Friday October 24, 2008 surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born in Troy the son of the late Howard and Dorothy (Siek) Bell and was a lifelong area resident. He worked for Ford Motor Co. in Green Island for well over 30 years as a Quality Control Supervisor. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating at the family's camp at the Great Sacandaga Reservoir.
When Don was sixteen he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He proudly served in the Corps in China during WW II and remained active with several veterans groups throughout his life. Don was the past commander of Lt. Herman Silverstein American Legion Post #218 as well as County Commander and District Historian. He chaired Honor a Veteran committee for over ten years. Don was the past Commandant of the Marine Corps League – William Dale O'Brien detachment and was a member of V F W and D A V.
Don is survived by his wife of 54 years Theresa, their sons; Timothy (Tina), Scott (Mary) and Robert (Michele), grandchildren; Mallory, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Alyssa, Brittany, Dominique and Samantha and great-grandson Lucas. He is also survived by his sibling; Lillian Parsons, Dorothy Ann Liburdi and Raymond Bell and several nieces and nephews.
Don's family would like to thank the Hospice nurses, Dr. Sokol and especially Dr. Hoenzsch and Laura for their care and compassion.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.). Immediately following the service a gathering will be held at the Zaloga Post on Everett Rd. Calling hours will be Monday 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be Wednesday 12 noon at Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Memorial Contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany.
