Donald T. Birkmayer
March 15, 1925 — November 5, 2020
Troy- Donald T. Birkmayer, 95, died November 5th 2020 in Ithaca with his daughters by his side. Born in Troy he was the son of the late Louis and Helen Birkmayer.
Don served in the United States Army from 1944-1946 fighting in Philippines during WWII. He graduated from RPI in 1949 in Management Engineering. He then went on to work for the NYS Dept. of Transportation until his retirement. Don enjoyed college hockey and was the announcer for RPI hockey for many years as well as editor of the Intercollegiate Hockey Newsletter.
Don is survived by his children, Carolyn S. Cox Hughes (John), Nancy J. Kane (Kevin), Richard A. Birkmayer. Don is predeceased by their mother, Virginia Birkmayer. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Don is predeceased by his brother, Richard Birkmayer and his second wife, Madonna Stahl.
