Troy - Donald J. Casey, 87, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 with his loving family by his side.
Don is survived by his children, James K. (Phyllis) Casey, Donna J. (James) Gauze, Donald Casey, David Casey, Gary (Ruth) Casey, John Casey, Richard Weaver, and Linda Chiera; beloved companion, Carol Terry; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Don was predeceased by his wife, Catherine and his daughter, Gail.
Don was born in Troy NY on August 13, 1929 due to the death of his mother Haddie Casey he was raised inTroy Orphanage (Vanderheyden Hall). He served in the Army/Army Air Corp until 1947. He was a WWII veteran. He returned to Troy and worked several jobs until starting his own floor cleaning business. A frequent patron of the Famous Lunch in Troy, also of Mike's Luncheonette, on Erie Blvd. in Schenectady, having breakfast and lunch with family and friends on most days. He enjoyed family and visits to the Casino dice tables. He will forever be missed especially his smile and whistle that he was known for all his life.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY,on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. A Memorial Funeral service will be held at 8:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Don's memory to St. Judes Childrens Hospital, 501 St Jude Place
Memphis, TN 38105.
