Donald F. Arthur

SLINGERLANDS – Donald F. Arthur, 95, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland. He was born in Slingerlands and lived there for all of his life. He was a life time member of Community United Methodist Church in Slingerlands. Don was a graduate of Bethlehem High School and attended Albany Business College. He was a US Army veteran serving his country during World War II and a proud recipient of the Bronze Star. Don was an avid bowler and enjoyed gardening. He enjoyed watching horse racing on television and especially loved spending time with his family.


Don was predeceased by his beloved wife, Alice (Barrett) Arthur as well as two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his loving nieces and nephews, Barbara and Gail Bossalini, Carole Sanchez, Arlene Hotaling, Deborah (David) Jantos, Timothy (Carole) Arthur, Thomas (Carol) Arthur, Arthur (Sharon) Yaple, Gail (Gary) O'Connor and Robert (Dana) Thompson. He is the brother-in-law of Ginny Riley and her family. Also surviving are many great nieces and nephews. Don's family would like to thank the caregivers at Our Lady of Mercy Life Care Center Lourdes Unit and the hospice staff for all of the care and compassion they gave to Don during his stay.


Funeral services will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Community United Methodist Church, 1497 New Scotland Rd., Slingerlands. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Donald F. Arthur.
