Albany – Donald F. Hillmann, 88, passed away Saturday January 8. 2011 at St. Peter's Hosptial.
Don was born and raised in Albany, the son of the late Frad and Grace (Speck) Hillmann. He graduated from Philip Schuyler High School and was a veteran of WW II, having proudly served in the US Army with the Combat Engineers. He was wounded in Italy and received the Purple Heart. After returning from the war, he owned and operated the Hillmann Roofing and Siding for 50 years. Don was a member of the Bucci McTague Post 1530, Disabled Veterans, Elks Lodge 2480, Past Master of Masonic Lodge James Ten Eyck and currently member of the Wadsworth Lodge 0417. He played high school and semi-professional football and baseball and was an avid golfer.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Grace (Beauchaine) Hillmann and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Dorothy Hillmann, step-brother Franklin Morrison Jr. and step-father Franklin Morrison, Sr.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday 6:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will precede the service Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice.
